The South West Peninsula League was formed following an amalgamation of the South Western Football League and the Devon County Football League in June 2007. The league consists of 3 divisions:-
Premier Division Clubs from throughout Devon & Cornwall and placed at Step 6 of the National League System
Division 1 East Clubs all from Devon and placed at Step 7 of the National League System
Division 1 West Clubs of which the majority come from Cornwall and the others from West Devon and placed at Step 7 of the National League System.
At the end of each season
One club can be promoted from the Premier Division to the Western League Premier, the bottom 2 clubs can be relegated to Division 1 East & West.
One club from each of Division 1 East & West can be promoted to the Premier Division. The bottom side in each of the Division 1's can be relegated to 1 of 6 feeder leagues beneath the league.
In addition the league runs a knock-out Cup Competition that involves all member clubs with the first & second rounds played on a regional basis before the last 16 clubs compete over the whole 2 county area.
LEAGUE NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
CLYST ROVERS AFC The officers of the league have today received a written communication from Clyst Rovers AFC indicating that they have withdrawn from the league with immediate effect. No reason has been given in the communication from the club. The officers are of course saddened to see a founder member leave the league and deeply regret the consequences that go with such a decision. The league secretary will over the next few days make the necessary changes to the league table, forthcoming fixtures, leading scorers, attendance records etc but it should be noted that this is a time consuming task and may take several days before being completed. The fixtures over this weekend, Torpoint Athletic v Clyst Rovers on Saturday 6th March and Clyst Rovers v Bovey Tracey on Monday 8th March have been postponed and no replacement fixtures will be made on those dates. Philip Hiscox (Secretary)
